My writing earned three First Place Awards in Delaware Press Association’s 2013 Communications Contest in the categories of travel, advertorial and online news writing. These works have now progressed to the national competition sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women.

First Place in Travel Writing was awarded for “So Many Spas, So Little Time,” which appeared in the AAA World online magazine in February 2012, and for “Weekend Getaways,” which appeared in Delaware Today in May 2012. “So Many Spas” highlighted some of the best spas in the mid-Atlantic states. “Weekend Getaways” offered suggestions for four weekend getaways to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, Boston, the Pocono Mountains and Doylestown, Pa. Both articles are available as reprints.

First Place in Advertorial recognized two lengthy advertorial supplements that I wrote for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. Both of those supplements appeared in Delaware Today magazine and were used as stand-alone publications by the sponsoring organizations.

First Place in Online News was awarded to “Delaware makes dramatic progress against colon cancer,” an article that appeared on the news website of WDDE/Delaware First Media, a nonprofit news start-up .
